Why There Shouldn’t Be a Minimum Wage

theytookourjobsIn 2015, this week, 21 states will be raising the minimum wage. New wages will range from $8 to $9.15 as compared to the federal minimum of $7.25. This made me wonder where the movement for $15/hr went, I haven’t heard from them in a while.

Turns out, Seattle implemented a $15 minimum wage early this year. What were the effects?

Managers started to take on more responsibility as opposed to hiring.
Large companies laid off employees and canceled plans to hire.
Small businesses are moving or closing.
Many products added “living-wage surcharges,” including parking.
Companies cut employee benefits and overtime.

On the positive side, despite no one hiring, there has been a huge increase in job applications.

The Real Cost of Minimum Wage

The argument against minimum wage is simple. It might not be profitable for a company to hire someone at a higher wage, so they don’t hire. If someone can’t produce $7.25/hr, you’re condemning him or her to a wage of $0.

One argument says that the minimum wage raises the standard of living for all. Lowering it would hurt everyone.

This is ridiculous considering that most jobs pay above the minimum due to competition and profits. Lowering the minimum does nothing but lower the barrier to entry.

Minimum wage isn’t for adults looking for a particular “standard of living.” Jobs like food preparation and retail floor sales isn’t the kind of thing you should be doing as a middle-aged parent.

Those jobs are for young people who need to earn experience and learn skills. Minimum wage jobs need little to no skill and operate in a low risk environment. (Missing a day of work at McDonald’s isn’t going to hurt anyone.)

Ashton Carter as Secretary of Defense? Are you kidding me?

Wikipedia photo by David Shankbone.

Wikipedia photo by David Shankbone.

This has got to be some kind of “punk,” right? The guy from That ’70’s show as Secretary of Defense?

I mean I know appointees “retire” so quick on him that he has to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find people. But does he have to pick a guy whose closest military experience has been to watch Demi Moore in A Few Good Men and that debacle GI Jane.

I guess he did do some Texas Ranger movie a few years ago. Come on. This is a guy who gets himself in trouble “tweeting.” I mean….

Oh. Wait a minute. That’s Ashton Kutcher. Sorry, dude. Go back to whoever you were punking.

Who is Ashton Carter?

Government Bullies vs. The Grove and Cheba Hut

Last month when the Daily Sun published an article about a party at the Grove Student Housing Complex that was “totally out of control” I knew that there had to be an ulterior motive behind it. After all, the moment police showed up the party dispersed and only a handful of drunk in public arrests were made. No force was used to break up the party. Hardly sounds uncontrollable to me.

Adding to the misinformation was a report released by Flagstaff PD that said 750-1,000 students were at the party. My sources tell me that in reality there were only 200-300 people there. The extent that Flag PD and the Daily Sun were going all out to villainize The Grove had me scratching my head for a reason.

I believe I found the motive when I attended last night’s Flagstaff City Council meeting. …

Not one of the trifecta publicly seen as the political leaders of the Democrat Party; Reid, Pelosi, and Obama never knew who Gruber was. The incredible, consistent, sociopathic lying by these three would be horribly appalling if it were not so damn serious. The sociopathic lying by Obama, Reid, and Pelosi, if not called-on and checked by someone who has the platform by which to do so, will collapse this nation. The American People shouted loudly a couple of weeks ago: “STOP!” The American People overwhelmingly shouted: “SAVE OUR COUNTRY!” The American People shouted at the polling booths: “STOP the transformation of our country; STOP the Marxism dressed-up in all sorts of rags to make it look appealing!” The American People gave the Republican Party grand permission to STOP Reid, Pelosi, and Obama and call them on all their lies!”

Reid, Pelosi, and Obama are racing all over the place telling anyone who will listen, “I (We) didn’t know Gruber, or “he was not on staff” or other lies, lies, lies! STOP IT!! Someone needs to wash their mouths out with soap!! Sociopathic liars all. Just look at the youtube site below where…you guessed it, Reid is praising Gruber all over the place. Obama doesn’t know him, but he was in private meetings in the Oval with Obama. Gruber made close to $6-million dollars being paid to be this all-knowing, all-wise, political and economic consultant, as well as health-care expert. ENOUGH! Enough lies and other sociopathic behaviors. ENOUGH!

Harry Reid is all over the place claiming he doesn’t know Gruber. Well, heck, Harry…just watch the youtube site below and listen to your own bellicose praising of the guy. By-the-way Harry, the date of your admiration speech was December 1, 2009, I believe it was a Tuesday.

Actress Ellen Barkin: Another example of Hollywood intelligence

Opinion
Glen Davis

It is amazing how a person can open their mouth and utter such unintelligent tripe.

According NewBusters, Hollywood scientist Ellen Barkin, fetuses are not human because they cannot talk. Apparently some people who can talk are not human. Should we abort them?

Apparently she added the following to her Twit [Not a misspelling] account:

barkin

For years, real scientist have advocated speaking with your child before it is born. There is a belief that it strengthens the bond between parent and child. Parent web site explains that the the bones in the babies ears are developed around eighteen-weeks and may be startled by loud noises.

By twenty-five-weeks a child can start hearing the voice of you and your partner and begin to recognize your voices. Research suggests that the heartbeat of the baby slows when hearing the voice of the mother. The heart begins to beat at eight-weeks.

They even recommend doing things like running the vacuum so that the child can get used to it. Research suggests that doing so will help the child remain asleep when doing household chores.

Oh, and “News Flash…” Ellen. A baby is born with a very limited vocabulary. Yet, they have the instinctive ability to recognize their parents.

The point is that they are actually learning while in the womb.

And it gets worse. Some nurses who have gotten away from the abortion temples in the United States report they did so because they believed that the babies expressed horror when being aborted.

Preliminary election results

Arizona-electsWith 49 precincts yet to report, as of about 8:30 this morning, it appears the results look good for Republicans across the board. Statewide the Republican hold a firm margin in the Arizona legislature with 17 Republican Senate seats over 13 Democrats. The Republicans hold 39 House seats to 21 filled by Democrats.

Ann Kirkpatrick retained her House seat with 53.11% to 46.59% for Andy Tobin. The seat for the House of Representatives for District 2 may still be in question with Rep Martha McSally holding a .02% lead with 145 of 194 precincts reporting over Democrat Ron Barber.

Districts 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9 remain the same with Grijalva (D), Gosar (R), Salmon (R), Salmon, Schweikert, Trent and Sinema (D), respectively, retaining their seats. Ruben Gallego (D) was declared winner of District 7 early in the counting by taking an overwhelming margin.

Doug Ducey was declared the winner of the gubernatorial race just before 9 p.m. last night. He took 53.83% of the vote over 41.32% for Democrat Fred Duval, so far.

The race for Secretary of State is still tight, but Republican Michele Reagan holds about a 5% lead over Terry Goddard.

With 53.29%, Mark Brnovich will probably defeat Felecia Rotellini for the office of Attorney General.

Republican Diane Douglas holds a marginal 3% lead in the race for Superintendent of Public Instruction with 51.11% to 48.84% for David Garcia. This fight became over Common Core Curriculum with Douglas saying that she wants it out of schools while Garcia stated that Arizonans are too stupid to understand what it is about.

Republicans Tom Forese and Doug Little maintained about 8% over their Democratic rivals with Sandra Kennedy receiving 21.42% and Jim Holoway receiving 20.89%. Forese and Little received almost 29% each.

Sylvia Allen, who ran for Senator in place of the late Chester Crandell, took the District 6 Senate seat. This morning Allen has 51.48% with O’Halleran taking 48.32%. Brenda Barton and Bob Thorpe retained their House seats.

We might have misspoke last night. The Coconino County sight had O’Halleran ahead, but the Statewide site might have had Allen ahead. Coconino, of course, votes Democrat.

Proposition 122, the State Rights initiative, is still passing with 49 precincts yet to report. So far it has 51.3% in favor with 48.7% opposed. Proposition 303 passed overwhelmingly allowing terminally ill patients to try experimental drugs. Why this was even a question is unknown. What is known is that the legislators elected will have to tighten their belts because they will not get a pay raise with the failure of Proposition 304.

In local battles, Democrat Howard Grodman soundly defeated his Libertarian rival Kevin Morrow for Justice of the Peace in Flagstaff. Judge of the Superior Court for Division 1 went to Jacqueline Hatch.

Nathaniel White was elected at Coconino Community College District 1 Board Member.

Ann Wells and Michael Fleishman were elected to the Williams School Board.

Jerry Nabours was re-elected as Mayor of Flagstaff

In Coconino County, all local propositions raising taxes passed.

In tight races Jeff Dewit State Treasurer may take the office of State Treasurer with 99.15% and Joe Hart State Mine Inspector 99.28%.

These results were based on the Arizona Secretary of State election results web site and may change. Upon completion of the counting, the results are not final until canvassed by the office of the Arizona Secretary of State.

Gary King makes totally non-racist remark about opponent

Governor Martinez of New Mexico

Governor Martinez of New Mexico

NEW MEXICO – The Democratic candidate for the office of Governor of New Mexico is under fire for comments made at a private campaign function concerning incumbent Republican Governor Susanna Martinez. The non-racist Democrat Gary King stated that Governor Martinez “…does not have a Latino heart.”

While the Republican Governors Association is demanding an apology, Governor Martinez told KOAT in New Mexico:

I’m not sure what Gary King meant by what he said, so I’m not going to accuse him of racism.

King will not apologize stating that he was simply plagiarizing “labor leader” Dolores Huerta.

Main stream media, which appropriately jumped on the Mitt Romney 47% video, are fortunately silent on this non-racist non-issue. Mother Jones even went through the trouble of creating a total transcript of the entire “secret” video of Romney during his campaign event. They are silent on this video.

One poll shows that Governor Martinez may be re-elected for Governor of New Mexico, but a 2016 bid for the office of President of the United States is not likely.

Phoenix Suns player P.J. Tucker - Photo from FOX videoOPINION by Glen Davis

PHOENIX – Finally. Arizona is complying with the Eighth Amendment. Sort of.

You might recall last month when Arizona executed Joseph Wood while he slept. This has apparently had a significant impact on Arizona jurisprudence.

PJ Tucker will not have to spend time in icky old tent city in Phoenix for his extreme DUI conviction. He’s been sentenced to three days in Kawliforna.

While being sentenced to spend time in California might be a violation of the Eighth Amendment, he will have to spend his time in sunny, California in an air conditioned cell separated from the other icky inmates. And he will have to pay a whole $200 a day to do it!

In addition he will be grounded for eleven days when he returns home and have to have an ignition interlock device installed.

You or I would probably be held to the standard of Arizona Revised Statute 29-1382, Section D. 2:

A person who is convicted of a violation of subsection A, paragraph 2 of this section [Blood alcohol content of more than 0.20] shall be sentenced to serve not less than forty-five consecutive days in jail and is not eligible for probation or suspension of execution of sentence unless the entire sentence is served.

There are possible extenuating circumstances surrounding any case of which we may be unaware. Maybe his apology had something to do with it. If you are ever arrested for extreme DUI, do not forget to apologize.

The lesson here is DO NOT drink and drive. Unless you have a significant bank account.

To be fair to Mr. Tucker, he may have been actually remorseful and may never do it again. Only time will tell.

Tucson councilman wants to give police more excuses to confiscate guns.

Re: “Cops need more gun seizure power, Koz says…” In the Arizona Daily Star.

ACDLlogo3One of the most regrettable phrases in the English Language, is, “there ought to be a law…”

How regrettable it is that sitting elected officials don’t look up our current law, before suggesting changes in it. Some supposed “emergency,” instead becomes the vapid excuse for more suppression of civil rights. That’s called bigotry, Councilman Kozachik. It wasn’t cool when we did it to Blacks, and it is no more cool to do it to the next minority down the line.

Councilman Kozachik claims to want a “legal opinion” before he proposes an ordinance. He does not need one. All he need do is read ARS 13-3108. In a nutshell, 3108 makes the state the controlling legal authority in terms of firearm regulation. Political subdivisions (cities, counties, boards, districts) cannot enforce restrictions more stringent than state law. See for yourself, at:
http://www.azleg.gov/FormatDocument.asp?inDoc=/ars/13/03108.htm&Title=13&DocType=ARS

If state law does not authorize it, the city cannot do it. Preemption makes firearms laws equal, from Window Rock to Steins. The Arizona Citizens Defense League asks Councilman Kozachik to take what the courts call “legal notice,” of the law.

“Preemption” was strengthened at the urging of The Arizona Citizens Defense League in 2010, specifically to prevent the ideas of people like Councilman Kozachik, from ever burdening the rights of the people of Arizona, again. This was especially true in the wake of the Rineer vs. Tucson case. http://caselaw.findlaw.com/az-court-of-appeals/1447762.html. In that case, Ken Rineer’s rights were not deemed to have been violated by the city ignoring state law, “he need merely have walked around Himmel Park, rather than in it.” Yes, yes, all the animals are equal, just some are “more equal” than others….

This year AzCDL may request an addendum to that law, known as the “this means you, Steve,” clause.

Had Councilman Kozachik done slightly more due diligence, he would have discovered that state law already contains the ability of a law enforcement officer to force psychological evaluation on a person who may be a danger to himself or others, in ARS 36-520 through 526.

Really, councilman, it’s online. You can look it up for yourself at: http://www.azleg.gov/ArizonaRevisedStatutes.asp?Title=36. If a person is judged incompetent by a court, there is already a lawful process to remove his guns. We don’t need any more, sir. Causing a person to prove that he is not crazy, in order to exercise a fundamental right, Councilman Kozachik, amounts to “guilty until proven innocent.”

As Dennis Prager says, “the larger the government, the smaller the citizen.” We do not need any “smaller” citizens, Mr. Kozachik, we need better “hired help” at the City Council. That starts with those who first concern themselves with Article 2, Section 2 of the Arizona Constitution:

“Political power; purpose of government: “All political power is inherent in the people, and governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, and are established to protect and maintain individual rights.“

Councilman, you swore an oath to uphold that Constitution. If there is any new law needed, it is a criminal penalty for those elected officials who disobey said oath. Failing that, Ace Hardware is running it’s “tar and feathers special,” and I’m sure the RKBA community would gladly chip in to color match it to your bicycle.

The greatest blessing you could give this community, Councilman Kozachik, is the descending Doppler sound of your bicycle bell.

The Fundamental Changing of America

Opinion by Lyle Rapacki
GetInline1

Ignoring the “Silent Majority” of Americans, we are witnesses to one of the greatest tragedies in human history…the transformation of America from the nation that stood as a bright light of hope, of protection, of leadership and examples to a world needing such hope, and protection, and leadership. The transformation of America from a country unlike any other in the world because of our form of government by the people, rather than a Ruler or Dictator; exceptional because each citizen had an opportunity to succeed in whatever endeavor they chose, rather than being relegated to remaining in a serf condition. The transformation of America whose laws and civility, in great measure, were founded on Judeo Christian beliefs, with these beliefs taught in school, employed in government, and recognized and supported by the courts, and endorsed by WE THE PEOPLE of these united States of America. We are witnesses to the most radical demographic transformation ever orchestrated upon a country, the deliberately planned and implemented agenda to collapse our Nation’s sovereignty and standing as the leader and Protector to the Free World.

President Theodore Roosevelt clearly stated: “The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities.” The Elites in both political parties whose objective is to create a New-World Order and remove all national sovereignty, have deliberately avoided securing our Nation’s borders so as to bring about a multilingual, multiethnic, multicultural Tower of Babel. Not loyal to America, no allegiance to our values and principles, with no respect for our traditions and heritage, those running across our borders intend to cash-in on all America has to offer, while remaining loyal to their country of origin.

Historically Italians, Germans, Poles, Swedes, Armenians, Greeks, Jews, and so very many other immigrants chose to come to America to assimilate and proudly become Americans, all the while remembering and celebrating their country of origin. From Asia to Africa, from Latin America to Europe immigrants came to our shores and gladly and proudly sang “God Bless America” and to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Not today! The flood of illegals pouring into America with the full knowledge and support of the Obama crew are part of the planned destruction of United States sovereignty.
