3rd Infantry remains on guard during hurricane Sandy

Third U.S. Infantry (The Old Guard) Photo – Facebook Page

WASHINGTON—While everyone else hunkered down in Washington D.C., personnel of “The Old Guard,” 3rd United States Infantry remained on guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier during the storm.

There were no photos taken during the storm, but the photo shown here was taken recently and posted on the Facebook Page of the 3rd Infantry.

From their Facebook Page:

The Sentinels at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier maintain their vigil even as Hurricane Sandy bears down on the Eastern Seaboard. The Old Guard has guarded the tomb every minute of every day since April 6, 1948. Today will be no exception.

A photo circulating via e-mail with three men guarding the tomb is apparently from a storm in September of this year.

With or without picture, the display of honor of the men of the 3rd is yet another inspiration to come out of the storm.
