Interstate 40 ramp restrictions at A-1 Mountain this week

FLAGSTAFF – Northern Arizona drivers accessing exit at A-1 Mountain (milepost 191) from Interstate 40 will need an alternate route during the following closures scheduled because of guardrail work. The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to allow extra travel time as the nearest interchange—at Bellemont—is 5 miles to the west.

The A-1 Mountain off-ramp from westbound I-40 will be closed from 4:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30.
The A-1 Mountain on-ramp to westbound I-40 will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31.
The A-1 Mountain off-ramp from eastbound I-40 will be closed from 4:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. both Wednesday, Nov. 1 and Thursday, Nov. 2.

Detour signs will be in place to direct drivers westbound I-40 to Bellemont (milepost 185) and turn around at the Bellemont traffic interchange to access eastbound I-40.

BELLEMONT – Northern Arizona drivers who access eastbound I-40 at A-1 Mountain (milepost 191) will need an alternate route during early hours on Friday because of resurfacing. The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to allow extra travel time as the nearest interchange–at Bellemont—is five miles to the west.

The A-1 Mountain on-and off-ramps to eastbound I-40 will be closed from 4:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, Oct. 20. Drivers will use westbound I-40 to Bellemont (milepost 185) and turn around at the Bellemont traffic interchange to access eastbound I-40.

No access to eastbound Interstate 40 from A-1 Mountain this week and early next

Northern Arizona drivers who access eastbound I-40 at A-1 Mountain (milepost 190) will use an alternate route this week and early next week because of guardrail replacement work. The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to allow extra travel time as the nearest interchange — at Bellemont — is five miles to the west.

The A-1 Mountain on-ramp to eastbound I-40 is closed to 6 p.m. today and again from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 16. Drivers will use westbound I-40 to Bellemont (milepost 185) and turn around at the Bellemont traffic interchange to access eastbound I-40.

Crews are scheduled to replace the guardrail at the A-1 Mountain interchange in conjunction with the ongoing project to rehabilitate 12 miles of pavement along I-40 between mileposts 179 and 191, approximately four miles west of Flagstaff. Learn more at azdot.gov/I40Paving.

Paving on Interstate 40 ramps at Bellemont next week

BELLEMONT – The Arizona Department of Transportation is scheduled to pave at the Bellemont traffic interchange (Exit 185) next week as part of the improvement project on Interstate 40 from Parks to Riordan. The ramps will be closed during paving, however, access across the bridge will be accommodated at all times.

ADOT advises drivers to plan for extra travel time while work occurs and watch for the following ramp closures:

· WESTBOUND on- and off-ramps: Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
· EASTBOUND off-ramp: Thursday, Oct. 12, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
· EASTBOUND on-ramp: Friday, Oct. 13, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Motorists can use the interchanges at Parks (milepost 178) and A-1 Mountain (milepost 190) during the scheduled closures. Signs will be in place to assist with detour routes in the area.

Work at Interstate 40 and Bellemont traffic interchange continues this week

BELLEMONT – The Arizona Department of Transportation is scheduled to continue paving at the Bellemont traffic interchange next week as part of the improvement project on Interstate 40 from Parks to Riordan.

ADOT advises drivers to allow extra travel time while work occurs on the eastbound ramps (Exit 185) as follows:

· Tuesday, Sept. 26, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
· Thursday, Sept. 28, from noon to 6 p.m.
· Friday, Sept. 29, from 4:30 a.m. to noon.

Motorists can use the interchanges at Parks (milepost 178) and A-1 Mountain (milepost 190) to travel between eastbound I-40 and Bellemont. Signs will mark the detour routes. The Bellemont bridge over I-40 will remain open at all times, and no restrictions are scheduled on the westbound I-40 ramps.

Interstate 40 eastbound ramp work at Bellemont begins tomorrow

BELLEMONT – The Arizona Department of Transportation is ahead of schedule for ramp repairs at the Bellemont traffic interchange and will begin reconstructing the eastbound Interstate 40 on- and off ramps at Exit 185 early Tuesday, Aug. 22.

Work on the westbound ramps is anticipated to be completed early Tuesday morning, and the ramps will be reopened for travel at 7 a.m. Once the westbound ramps are open, the eastbound on- and off-ramps at Bellemont will be closed for construction from 7 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31. The Bellemont bridge over I-40 will remain open at all times.

Motorists can use the interchanges at Parks (milepost 178) and A-1 Mountain (milepost 190) to travel between eastbound I-40 and Bellemont. Signs will mark the detour routes.

Ramp repairs are anticipated to be completed in time for the Labor Day weekend with no restrictions to the Bellemont area.

BELLEMONT – The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin reconstructing the westbound Interstate 40 on- and off-ramps at Bellemont (exit 185) early Monday, August 14.

To accommodate this work, the westbound on- and off-ramps at Bellemont will be closed from 5 a.m. Monday, August 14 to 6 p.m. Friday, August 25. The Bellemont bridge over I-40 will remain open at all times.

Motorists can use interchanges at Parks (milepost 178) and A-1 Mountain (milepost 190) to travel between westbound I-40 and Bellemont. Signs will mark the detour routes.

After work ends on the westbound ramps at Bellemont, crews will begin reconstructing the interchange’s eastbound on- and off-ramps.

Agencies Safely Dispose of Grenade at Schuff Steel

FLAGSTAFF – On August 2, 2017 around 9:10 am Deputies responded to Schuff Steel in Bellemont, AZ for a report of a found hand grenade in a construction area. The grenade was located by employees while they were installing new equipment. The grenade was partially exposed above ground in an industrial area. Deputies secured the scene and evacuated the immediate area. Members of the Flagstaff Police Department Bomb Squad and Navajo Army Depot (NAD) Explosive Ordinance Division responded.

The device was a WWII era hand grenade and appeared to be intact. The grenade was secured in an explosives safe container and transported to NAD where it is scheduled to be destroyed.

Plan for lane restrictions and possible closure of eastbound Interstate 40 near Bellemont early Thursday, July 13

BELLEMONT – Drivers could be delayed on eastbound I-40 near Bellemont early Thursday, and Mother Nature is to blame. A recent lightning strike damaged a 90-foot pine tree adjacent to travel lanes at milepost 186, and the tree must be removed for safety.

Work is scheduled to occur on eastbound I-40 from 6 to 11 a.m. Thursday, July 13. I-40 will be narrowed to one lane; however, a full closure of eastbound travel lanes might be necessary to prevent debris from entering the roadway.

Drivers should plan to slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment, as well as law enforcement officers who will be on site to assist with traffic control.

Boundary Fire smoke enters Williams area

WILLIAMS – Smoke from the Boundary Fire entered Williams creating a slight haze over the area. The forest service issued an advisory for parts of Flagstaff, Bellemont, Parks and Williams.
Coconino County health issued a release advising that smoke from wildfires in Northern Arizona and in Southern Utah continues to affect several communities in Coconino County. County health officials are encouraging individuals to take precautions to protect themselves from health effects of wildfire smoke.

Wildfire smoke is a mixture of small particles, gases and water vapor. The primary health concern is the small particles. Not everyone who is exposed to smoke will have health problems. Many factors influence a person’s susceptibility to smoke. These factors include the level, extent, and duration of exposure, age, and individual susceptibility.

Anyone who can see, taste or smell smoke should curtail outdoor activity. People with heart disease, lung disease or asthma should avoid the outdoors entirely, as should children and the elderly.
