Revival at Rodeo Barn set for tonight

WILLIAMS – Williams churches have joined together and decked out the Rodeo Barn to present the First Annual Revival Celebration with music and seven local pastors providing messages.

Pastor Joe Oswald from the First Baptist Church pointed out in one of his sermons that a revival is to revive the spirit of Christians. Anyone is welcome, however, and there will be alter calls and baptisms at the services. After the services there will be Christian fellowship. The services run from 5:30 to 8 p.m. tonight through Sunday September 16.

First Baptist Church dedicates Dream Acres

WILLIAMS — Several members of the community joined the First Baptist Church of Williams in dedicating their Dream Acres park after services Sunday. The focus was the opening of the Edith Pouquette Prayer Garden. The Garden was dedicated to a member of the First Baptist Church in honor of her long service to God. Dream Acres is a park built by the First Baptist Church and open to the public. Dogs on a leash are welcome.

A crowd gathered to watch Edith Pouquette cut the ribbon to the Prayer Garden. Pastor Joe Oswald held a prayer service afterward to complete the dedication of the Garden.

Dream Acres has a Gospel Golf disc course. There is a hiking trail with stations along the way where hikers can participate in sports activities.

The First Baptist Church holds services on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and Sunday morning at 10:30 p.m. They hold Bible studies earlier on Sunday, a Men’s Bible Study on Monday at 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday at 7 p.m. They also host the Spanish Bible Study on Monday. The Church is located at 629 W Grant Ave in Williams across the street from Safeway. Third Annual Route 66 Good Friday Procession draws churches together

WILLIAMS – The Third Annual Route 66 Good Friday Procession traveled down Railroad Avenue without a problem. The Williams Police Department escorted the procession to ensure the safety of participants. Traffic was lighter than usual which made the procession easier this year.The members of the community began gathering at 6:30 this year; later than previous years. Father Killian, of Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church who led the procession, explained that the procession wanted to reach the Family Harvest Church at sunset.Member of the community and churches of Williams gathered about 6:30 to carry a cross to Fourth Street. The procession crossed Bill Williams Avenue to Grant Street where they turned on Grant to reach the Family Harvest Church.The community churches joined together at the Family Harvest Church for a community worship service and a reading of the Stations of the Cross.

The Procession ushers in the Easter weekend holiday. Tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held at the Williams Recreation Center on Railroad Avenue across the street from Circle K.

Route 66 Good Friday procession this Friday

WILLIAMS – This Friday the churches of Williams gather to carry a cross down Route 66 (Railroad Avenue) in the annual Route 66 Good Friday Procession. The group will gather at the Mustang on the east end of town and travel west to Memorial Park.The churches start gathering about 5 p.m. with the procession beginning at 6:45 p.m. The Stations of the Cross will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Family Harvest Church on Grant and 7th Avenue across the street from Safeway.

The Williams PD ensures the safety of the procession each year.

The procession is sponsored by the Williams Churches, but anyone is invited to join in on the event that leads up to Easter. The churches of Williams also hold a combined worship service in the evening of the last Sunday of the month.

They ask that you RSVP at their office or by signing the sheet at their table in the sanctuary of the Church to ensure enough snacks and drinks. Bake and Yard sale at First Baptist Church Saturday

WILLIAMS — There will be a bake sale and a yard sale at the First Baptist Church in Williams to support the Women’s Ministry. The sale will start at 8 a.m. on Saturday. The church is located across the street from Safeway.

This fund helps to pay for scholarships for women to attend retreats, conferences and other events throughout the year. It is also used to pay for support of Handmaidens Ministry outreach, to the community, through lunch bags, Hope Cottage, blankets and the Dec scarf and mitten distribution.

Andy McDaniel preaches last sermon at FBC

FBC-141109-02WILLIAMS – A comedian of old once remarked that he observed that when a minister gets ordained, he suddenly acquires a Southern-accent. The Southern-accent of Pastor Andy McDaniel, who grew up in South Carolina, as is his walk with the Lord, is genuine. This week was the last sermon by Pastor McDaniel at the First Baptist Church in Williams.

Pastor Andy, as his congregation calls him, relates that he was not always a practicing Christian. For 25-years Andy McDaniel spent his time in the longest, scripted reality series on television. Professional wrestling.

While he pursued a wresting career, he also worked as a Sheriff’s Deputy in Berkley County, Georgia. He also did a stint as the Police Chief of Coward, South Carolina. He quipped that it could be interesting when he went to police events and was introduced as the “Coward Police Chief.”

Pastor Andy was led to the Lord by “The Million Dollar Man,” Ted DiBiase. DiBiase is also a retired wrestler and ordained minister. He attended Covington Theological Seminary in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia where he received his doctoral degree.

Pastor Andy, wife Melissa and their twin children came to Williams in May of 2011. Last year he ran a short “wrestling ministry” for local kids to attract them to learn about the Lord and a few wrestling holds. The wrestling ministry was to wrap-up with an actual professionally faked wrestling match. It was cancelled because of bad weather.

The family is returning to the pastor’s roots of South Carolina. The family is moving Seneca, South Carolina where he will pastor Bounty Baptist Church.

Of his time in Williams, he said, “It’s been a great journey. We’ve really enjoyed our time here. We are looking forward to what the Lord has in store for us, and for Williams after we leave. We hope we’ve left our footprint here and we’re excited about what the days ahead hold.”

Williams dresses up for Halloween

tarantulaWILLIAMS – It must be October in Williams. The trees are turning and the turantulas are out and running about. Williams residents and businesses are dressing up for the Halloween. You also have the chance to win a fall basket through the Williams Chamber of Commerce.

On the weekends you have the chance to ride Pumpkin Patch Train. The train runs Saturday and Sunday at 11am, 1 & 3pm. The cost is only $20 per adult and $15 for children.

The other big event is the Bearizona Howly Growly Owly fall festival. The event is included in the price of admission. Do not get so wrapped up in the event, however, that you forget to drive through the park to see the animals.

Of course if you want to do something a little less scary, the weather is still great for a Marvelous Marv Grand Canyon Tour.

On Halloween the First Baptist Church and Family Harvest Church are hosting family friendly, safe events. Both churches are located across the street from Safeway along Grant street.

The Tainted Angel LLC will host a Zombie Prom at the Sultana Theater to benefit SAVE Meant to Rescue. The $10 per person event will include a brain eating contest, Cash Bar, photo booth, 80’s theme dance, contest and prizes and more.

The Williams Chamber of Commerce is currently running a scarecrow contest as part of their Alpine Harvest Festival. Several of the businesses have put up scarecrows and you could win a fall gift basket simply by judging the entries.

You can obtain a form from the Williams Visitor Center or any of the participating businesses. Judge a minimum of nine of the scarecrows and rate them each from 1 to 5. Make sure you obtain a sticker from the participating business. Drop off your entry at the Williams Visitor Center by October 29 in order to win the gift basket. You need not be present to win.

Kiwanis dinner and movie night this weekend

WILLIAMS—Movie night at the First Baptist Church kicks off the weekend events in Williams. 7th to 12th graders are invited to attend movie lock-in night at the church starting Friday, December 13th and ending around 9 am on Saturday. Participants are asked to bring a sleeping bag and pillow and a snack to share. There will be board games, cards and WII games. Contact Bob Broehm at (928)380-4346 if you have any questions.

The annual Kiwanis dinner starts at noon tomorrow at Doc Holiday’s on Grand Canyon Boulevard. The dinner features a great banquet, prizes and a visit by Santa.

There will, of course, be time to squeeze in a trip through Bearizona and a ride on the Polar Express.

The weather is expected to be clear through the weekend after rain and snow tonight.
