Paving work on Interstate 17 south of SR 169 scheduled next week

adot-logo3Motorists traveling next week between Phoenix and Flagstaff need to plan ahead, be alert for work zones and allow extra travel time due to a pavement improvement project that is entering its final stages along Interstate 17, midway between Cordes Junction and Camp Verde.

Work hours have primarily been overnight, but starting on Tuesday, Sept. 16, crews will begin applying the new top layer of rubberized asphalt, which is temperature sensitive and needs to be completed during daytime hours.

Drivers can expect I-17 to be narrowed to one lane in each direction between the Dugas Road/Orme Road exit and the State Route 169 junction (mileposts 269-279) from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. during weekdays (Monday through Thursday) through the end of this month.

In addition, the I-17 on- and off-ramps at the SR 169 interchange will be closed intermittently beginning at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14 through 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15. Delays of up to 30 minutes are possible.

The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

Signal pole replacement on SR 89 in Prescott at Mac Curdy scheduled Monday night

PRESCOTT – The Arizona Department of Transportation will replace a damaged signal pole on the northeast corner of State Route 89 at Mac Curdy Drive in Prescott on Monday night, Sept. 15 starting at 9 p.m. through Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 5 a.m.

Traffic will be guided through the work zone with flaggers and intermittent closures are possible. Minimal delays are expected. A width restriction of 12 feet will be in place during work hours through the work zone.

ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

Lane Striping on US 180 from Flagstaff to Snow Bowl this week

adot-logo3US 180 will undergo roadway striping this week for three miles beginning at Columbus Avenue and continuing north to the intersection of US 180 and Freemont Boulevard/Mt. Elden Road. The work will be conducted during nighttime hours from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Wednesday through Friday, Sept. 10 to Sept. 12.

The striping application on Friday will require a short-term, temporary closure of Forest Avenue for both east- and westbound lanes to allow paint and sealants to cure. Detours for Forest Avenue will be Beaver Street for southbound travel, and US 180 for northbound travel. The closure at Forest Avenue will be of a short duration and lifted as soon as the materials have finished the curing process.

Traffic along US 180 will experience short one-lane closures as required during the painting application. Flaggers will provide alternating access for both north- and southbound travel, and DPS will be on-site to accommodate intersection traffic. Please allow for extra driving time while traveling in the area and exercise caution while in the construction zone.

Overnight work on SR 89 between Prescott and Chino Valley Friday night

adot-logo-03aThe Arizona Department of Transportation will work overnight on Friday, Sept. 5 on State Route 89 between Prescott and Chino Valley (mileposts 320 to 325), weather permitting.

Crews will continue with the dirt haul and place paving materials onto the new roadway which requires trucks to cross the existing highway and intermittent road closures for up to 10 minutes at a time.

Next week, crews will return to the normal work hours of Monday through Thursday nights between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. through Sept. 30. Drivers can expect overnight intermittent closures up to 10 minutes during work hours.

The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

adot-logo3Crews will continue final paving on Interstate 17 in both directions between the Dugas/Orme exit and the State Route 169 traffic interchange starting Tuesday, Sept. 9 (mileposts 268 to 279).

Work hours have mainly been overnight but will also include day work through Monday, Sept. 22 between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. Drivers can expect alternating lane restrictions in both directions during work hours, weather permitting.

In addition to the day paving work scheduled, crews will be working on the SR 169 traffic interchange with final paving on off and on-ramps from I-17 and the SR 169 bridge approaches on Sunday, Sept. 7 between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Drivers can expect delays of up to 30 minutes intermittently during work hours.

Deck Repair Work Beginning Next Week for Glen Canyon Bridge

Glen_canyon_bridgePAGE – ADOT will be performing deck maintenance on Glen Canyon Bridge on US 89 approximately two miles north of the Town of Page. The work consists of repairing the surface of the bridge deck and applying a sealant to both north- and southbound lanes and will affect travel across the bridge one lane at a time.

Construction will occur during night hours between 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Monday, Sept. 8 and will occur weekly Mondays through Thursdays. The work is anticipated to be completed in October. To accommodate the maintenance, one lane of travel will be closed at a time, with flaggers provided for alternating traffic. Speeds will be reduced on approach of the bridge and delays during travel can be expected during construction.

Because Glen Canyon Bridge and the adjacent Glen Canyon Dam are popular tourist destinations, pedestrian travel on the bridge will be allowed – but only on the side of the bridge which is free of maintenance activity. No access or crossing over to the closed side of the bridge will be permitted during construction. Access to the adjacent Carl Hayden Visitor Center parking will be maintained at all times, and flaggers will assist to direct vehicles as they re-enter roadway traffic. Please exercise caution while the repair work is underway, and allow for extra travel time during construction.

Required Inspection This Weekend for Little Colorado River Bridge

CAMERON – ADOT will be conducting a required bridge inspection at the Little Colorado River Bridge, on US 89 at Cameron, about 50 miles north of Flagstaff as part of regular bridge maintenance. This inspection will take place this weekend, Friday through Sunday, Sept. 5-7; from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. During this process, travel will be reduced to one lane at the bridge to accommodate technicians and equipment, with DPS and flaggers in place to allow for alternating traffic. Drivers should allow for extra travel time as delays are anticipated during wait-times for the inspection.

Maintenance work on I-17 (Milton Avenue) in Flagstaff Wednesday

adot-logo3FLAGSTAFF – Travelers heading north through Flagstaff may experience long delays this Wednesday, Sept. 3 as ADOT maintenance crews pave a section of I-17 (Milton Avenue) from I-40 to McConnell Road. The pavement repair work will reduce northbound travel to one lane and is scheduled to occur from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Access to McConnell Road will be provided at all times during construction. Drivers are asked to allow for extra travel time to reach their destinations and use caution while in the construction area.

Paving work continues in both directions on Interstate 17 between the State Route 169 junction and the Dugas/Orme exit (mileposts 268 to 279).

As weather permits, drivers can expect a single lane restriction Sunday through Thursday nights between 8 p.m. and 10 a.m. through Sept. 30 as crews finalize paving, striping and seeding operations.

Some daytime lane restrictions are expected Monday through Thursday between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. through the work zone as ideal weather conditions exist for rubberized asphalt.

The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

Overnight dirt haul on SR 89 between Prescott and Chino Valley continues

adot-logo-03aPRESCOTT – Traffic on State Route 89 between Prescott and Chino Valley (mileposts 320 to 325) will be required to stop intermittently, weather permitting, for the next four weeks to allow trucks to safely cross the highway.

The hauling operation will continue tonight, Aug. 27 and continue through Tuesday, Sept. 30. Overnight work hours are 7 p.m. through 5 a.m. each night and intermittent closures are expected for dirt hauling and removal and relocation of temporary concrete barrier along the roadway.

Drivers can expect delays of up to 10 minutes at a time.
