ADEQ Awards $54,938 in Brownfields Grants to Somerton Elementary School District #11

PHOENIX — Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) officials announced today two Brownfields Grant awards totaling $54,938 to Somerton Elementary School District #11 (http://www.ssd11.org/) to bring an existing school-owned building back into use for the school’s growing student body.

Brownfields Grant funds will used to identify and properly remove and dispose of asbestos containing materials and lead-based paint in the building located at 440 N. Carlisle Ave. in Somerton, which is necessary for the school to regain use of the building, vacant for several years, for student facilities, including classrooms.

Interstate 40 paving work by Interstate 17 interchange on Monday, Nov. 14

FLAGSTAFF — Motorists traveling eastbound along Interstate 40 just outside of Flagstaff should allow for extra time for travel on Monday, Nov. 14 as crews perform spot-repairs to the roadway near the Interstate 17 junction (milepost 194-197).

Work will begin early in the morning and continue during daylight hours. The speed limit will be reduced through the construction zone.

Drivers should allow extra time for travel, use caution in the work zone and watch for equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but it’s possible that unscheduled closures or restrictions might occur because of weather or other factors. Producers of Christmas Pageant seeks equipment.

300-pageant16-10-18-13WILLIAMS — Producers of the Williams Christmas Nativity Pageant are seeking help from the community for the December 23 show.

The show is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. December 23 which is expected to be cold at the outside venue. Cosette Riggs is asking if anyone has outdoor patio heaters that they can contribute for the event. According to Facebook posts, the pageant seems to be coming together, but other contributions would be appreciated. The pageant could use safety observers, cocoa, cookies and other baked goods, ushers and so-forth.
