Hollywood Reporter: Animals were harmed

Photo taken of a horse named Glass on the set of the Hallmark Channel movie Love’s Resounding Courage shortly after the animal was impaled in an accident. He was soon euthanized.
King’s trainer eventually snagged him with a catch rope and dragged him to one side of the tank, where he scrambled out to safety.
“I think this goes without saying but DON’T MENTION IT TO ANYONE, ESPECIALLY THE OFFICE!” Johnson continued in the email, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. “I have downplayed the f— out of it.”
As a representative of the American Humane Association — the grantor of the familiar “No Animals Were Harmed” trademark accreditation seen at the end of film and TV credits — it was Johnson’s job to monitor the welfare of the animals used in the production filmed in Taiwan. What’s more, Johnson had a secret: She was intimately involved with a high-ranking production exec on Pi. (AHA’s management subsequently became aware of both the relationship and her email about the tiger incident, which others involved with the production have described in far less dire terms.) Still, Pi, which went on to earn four Oscars and $609 million in global box office, was awarded the “No Animals Were Harmed” credit.

Wisconsin family opens 50-year old bomb shelter
NEEHAH, WISCONSIN—Although this is a story from May of this year, it represents another story of life imitating art. Sort of.
The Zwick family knew that the previous owner had built a bomb shelter when they moved in over ten years previous. It was not until 2010, however, that they decided to open the 50-year-old, eight-foot by ten-foot chamber to see what was inside. Unlike Blast From the Past, the family did not find a family living inside waiting for the fallout from the Cuban missile crisis to subside. Surely fortunate as well, they did not find the bodies of a family who were waiting for the fallout from the Cuban missile crisis to subside.
The Mail Online reported:
“We assumed it was just this empty space,” homeowner Carol Hollar-Zwick told the Appleton Post-Crescent.
The boxes, old military ammunition crates, contained markings that suggested there might be explosives inside, so the family called the local branch of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Agents opened the crates to find… Hawaiian Punch.
“It was all of what you would expect to find in a 1960s fallout shelter. It was food, clothing, medical supplies, tools, flashlights, batteries – items that you would want to have in a shelter if you planned to live there for two weeks.”
Everything remained remarkably well-preserved, thanks to the airtight containers the supplies were kept in.
The items were donated to the Neehan Historical Society which just happens to have an exhibit about the cold war fear of the bomb.
Matinee was another comedy about the cold war era featuring a bomb shelter. It was set in Florida at the height of the Cuban missile crisis.

Tremors VI for real
VIETNAM—You might have seen the popular cult movie series Tremors thinking of it as science fiction.
Recently, however, Karapaia, a Japanese news agency, has posted a video of some kind of huge, slug-like creature dug up from the ground somewhere in Vietnam.
The video shows a crowd taking pictures and videos and watching as the creature is loaded onto a truck.
It is not reported whether or not Val and Earl killed the creature.
With Tremors V in the works, I have a sneaking suspicion where Tremors VI might be filmed.
We’re not in Perfection anymore.

The last original Navajo Code Talker awarded Audie Murphy award.
Chester Nez, the last of the original 29 Marine Navajo Code Talkers was given the Audie Murphy award on November 9. The risk of torture and death for these warriors was an everyday reality.
The Native Americans used the Navajo language to transmit coded messages concerning Japanese military operations.
“I was very proud to say that the Japanese did everything in their power to break that code but they never did,” Nez said in an interview with Stars and Stripes the day before the award ceremony.
The service of these brave men saved the lives of many Marines.
In politics, you better learn how to duck.
They are on television. Their figures and products are lined along Wal-Mart aisles. And now, they may be in your politics.
Although prominent Republican Eric Cantor backed fellow Neil Riser, a political novice by the name of Vance McAllister took the special election for the 5th Congressional district in Louisiana.
He told local KNOE TV that “Washington may not be ready for me.”
His endorsements? Probably his biggest endorsement came from the “Duck Dynasty” family. His endorsement came from former starting quarterback for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Phil Robertson.
It is said that he kept Terry Bradshaw on the bench and now he did the same to McAllister’s political rival Neil Riser. With the word from Robertson, McAllister took 60% of the vote from his established political rival.
A handful of Washington GOP operatives tried to get one of the members of the Duck Dynasty family to run for the seat, but failed.
The seat became available for the special runoff election when former Rep. Rodney Alexander resigned on Sept. 26 to become secretary of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs under Republican Governor Bobby Jindal.

Melissa Joan Hart Subjected to Death Wishes for ‘Simple Tweet’ Supporting GOP
Melissa Joan Hart, the actress most well known for playing “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch,” told HuffPost Live that, because she tweeted her support of Mitt Romney, she was overwhelmed with hateful insults in 2012.
“I got called every name in the book. And told I was, you know, they hope I die, and that they hope my children are gay which was, somehow, supposed to be some kind of punishment,” Hart said.
She said people called her names she wouldn’t say on the program. “The hate was really unbelievable, that I got just for saying that simple tweet.”
