Williams started August with rain and hail so heavy that it caused traffic to slow to the speed limit.

The weather caused some beautiful displays in Williams.

Congressional Democrats were so busy complaining about obstruction by the Republicans that they forgot to pass over 350 bills which languished on the desk of Harry Reid. Steve Stockman of Texas introduced a bill to address the border crisis. Sheila Jackson-Lee of Texas submitted her own proposal. This probably helped Independent voter registration to rise in Arizona.

Explosive Devices Found in Valle, AZ Mini Storage

Valle Arizona

Valle Arizona

VALLE – On Thursday, August 21, 2014 at about 10:30 am Coconino County Sheriff’s Dispatchers received a call from an individual who reported finding multiple improvised explosive devices in a mini storage unit located in Valle, Arizona. Upon their arrival Deputies learned that the reporting party had been asked to clean out the mini storage unit. As he was doing so, he found what he believed to be improvised explosive devices. Deputies identified what they believed to be two pipe bombs.

Flagstaff Police Department Explosive Device Response Team responded to the scene. While bomb technicians were in the process of rendering the explosive devices safe, one of the pipe bombs detonated; no one was injured.

Coconino County Sheriff’s Detectives with the assistance of the Flagstaff Police Department Explosive Device Response Team, Explosive Device Technicians from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms served a search warrant on the mini storage unit. The investigators found numerous explosive items to include pipe bombs, improvised explosive devices, shot gun shells with a fuse attached to the primer, and other items.

At this point, investigators have information that the adult male responsible for these devices is currently serving a ten year prison sentence in New York State for charges related to unlawful possession of explosive devices and firearms on an unrelated incident. The investigation involving the devices found at the Valle, AZ mini storage is still ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time. The suspect’s identity is being withheld pending the continued investigation and filing of official charges.

The real race in Williams

jop-raceArizona-electsWILLIAMS – The race for Justice of the Peace in Williams is the real local race to watch. The outcome not only effects Williams, but Valle and Tusayan, as well. The Justice of the Peace is also under contract as magistrate for the City of Williams. This has been the only contentious race in the City of Williams.

Jeff Brownlee is vying for the office of Justice of the Peace from incumbent Robert Krombeen. The winner of this race will be on the ballot in November. The only opposition they are likely to face is if another contender, or the candidate failing in this primary, faces a write-in candidate.

Anyone may file as a write-in candidate to be on the ballot for any County Office they qualify for. Candidates must file by September 25th by 5 pm. Write-in candidates must also file financial reports and disclosures and whatever other paperwork is required by any other candidate.

Electors may ONLY vote for write-in candidates who have filed the proper paperwork and whose name appears on the write-in candidates list provided at all of the polling places. If an elector writes in the name of a fictitious or real person as a “protest” vote, that vote will not be counted.

A person desiring to run as a write-in for a state or national office in the General Election in November must file through the office of the Secretary of State.
