Northern Arizona Writer’s Association meets Saturday.

The Northern Arizona Writer’s Association will be holding a meeting this Saturday, February 23rd at 10 am. The meeting will be held in the Branding Iron Restaurant, Wild West Junction on Route 66 in Williams.

Hugo award nominations open

hugo_smNominations for the biggest award of the year for science fiction are now open. The Hugo Award nomination process started on January 2 and run to March 10th. The 2013 Hugo Awards are being administered by LoneStarCon 3, the 2013 World Science Fiction Convention in San Antonio, Texas.

The awards are named after Hugo Gernsback, the founder of the pioneering science fiction magazine Amazing Stories. The Hugo is awarded by the World Science Fiction Society.

People eligible to nominate for the award must be, or have been, a member of the 2012, 2013 or 2014 Worldcons as of January 31, 2013. Nominations must be received by March 10, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. Post marks and other date stamps do not count.

Northern Arizona Authors Association meets January 12

All writers—published or not—are invited to The Northern Arizona Authors Association meeting at 10 am on Saturday January 12th at the Wild West Junction in Williams, Arizona. All writers, published or not, are welcome to join us.

The following meeting in February will be in Flagstaff to accommodate our authors from Sedona, Flagstaff and beyond.

Our newest published author Jessie Medeiros is having great success with the sales of her “Angels and Miracles” book.

Northern Arizona Authors Association October meeting

WILLIAMS—The next meeting of the Northern Arizona Authors Association will be Saturday October 13 at Camp Civitan. The meeting will start at 10 am and authors are encouraged to bring material to read to the group. The book collection of short stories by the authors of the group will also be discussed.

In addition, the filmmakers and actors may be filming the trailer for the book “River Thunder.” Anyone involved in the project are urged to come early.

There will be a hike to the edge of Cataract Canyon to film the trailer or just for fun if no filming is done.

Outdoor wear and good shoes for hiking through the forest are recommended.

The camp is located at 5008 North Civitan Road in Williams, Arizona.

Actors and crew needed for local movie shoot

WILLIAMS—Local author Gary McCarthy’s novel about the Grand Canyon and the Hualapais in the early 1900s, ‘River Thunder’, will be shooting a short trailer for Internet publicity on Oct. 13, at Camp Civitan north of Williams, from 10-4 during the day.

Three volunteer actors will be needed; a Native boy about 10 years old, his father in his 30s, and grandmother. Period clothes from 1901 will be needed, as well as some volunteer crew to help set up the scene on location outdoors.

Along with selling their novels to the shoppers at Bookman’s, the group decided they are going to do a movie trailer for Gary McCarthy’s River Thunder with David Seals directing. We are expecting Gary’s book to be sought after by major motion picture makers.

Also with the group was actor Jaron Druyon. Jaron has successfully recorded an audio book for Cosette Riggs The Clade Letters which is now being distributed by 101distributors. Jaron has also caught the eye—or ear—of a prominent audio book professional in Nashville, Tennessee for the quality of his voice and character portrayal. See Jaron’s website. The Association was also honored by the presence of Holocaust survivor, Doris Martin, author of Kiss Every Step meet with us. She will be joining the Northern Arizona Authors Association. See her book on Amazon. Doris and her husband Ralph are the founders of the Martin-Springer Institute at Northern Arizona University.

Our next meeting will be in Williams at 9 AM in the City Council Chambers by the Library. The following meeting will be in Bookman’s in Flagstaff on June 23rd. All authors, published and want to be published are invited to join us.

Williams Writer’s Group meets this Saturday

WILLIAMS—The Williams Writer’s Group will meet this Saturday, March 31 at 9 a.m. in the Williams Public Library on First Street across from the Post Office. They request that you bring a couple of pages of your latest project.
