Overnight lane restrictions on State Route 89A (Milton Road) in Flagstaff August 7-12

FLAGSTAFF – The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising motorists to plan for overnight lane restrictions on State Route 89A (known locally as Milton Road) in Flagstaff during the final stages of work on a pavement rehabilitation project.

Drivers should slow down, proceed through the work zones with caution and watch for construction personnel and equipment while the following restrictions are in place daily from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. starting Sunday night, August 7, and ending Friday morning, August 12:

  • Portions of north- and southbound SR 89A will be narrowed intermittently to one lane in each direction between Forest Meadows Street and Phoenix Avenue.
  • A vehicle width limit of 16 feet will be in place.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph.


The restrictions are needed as crews continue working on sidewalks, driveways and curb ramps. Crews have completed the most significant work on the project, which was to remove the existing pavement and replace it with new asphalt. For more information, visit the project web page.

Overnight full closures of State Route 89A Near Pumphouse Bridge

OAK CREEK CANYON – The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising drivers and area residents and businesses to plan for overnight full closures of State Route 89A in Oak Creek Canyon weekdays from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Mondays through Fridays on Aug. 15-19 and Aug. 22-26.

Closures will begin each evening at 9 p.m. starting on Monday, Aug. 15, and the roadway will reopen each morning at 6 a.m.
SR 89A will be closed to all traffic traveling north from Sedona beginning at the Cave Springs Campground (milepost 386).
DETOUR: Drivers on SR 89A traveling north to Flagstaff will use State Route 179 to Interstate 17.
SR 89A will be closed to all traffic traveling south from Flagstaff beginning at the Oak Creek Vista Overlook (milepost 390).
DETOUR: Drivers on SR 89A traveling south to Sedona will use I-17 to SR 179.
8-foot vehicle width and 30-foot length restrictions remain in place 24/7 for the duration of the project.

The overnight closures are needed so crews can safely continue working on the SR 89A Oak Creek Canyon Improvements project, which includes rockfall mitigation, erosion control and bridge rehabilitation. When full closures are lifted the roadway will continue to be narrowed to one lane only through the work zone(s) with alternating north- and southbound travel.

Plan for lane restrictions on SR 89A between Sedona and Flagstaff May 10-12

The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising motorists to plan for daytime lane restrictions on State Route 89A between Sedona and Flagstaff starting Tuesday, May 10, as crews perform guardrail repairs north of Grasshopper Point.

The following restrictions are in place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, through Thursday, May 12:

  • SR 89A will be restricted to one lane only with alternating north- and southbound travel at various locations between mileposts 376 and 384.
    Flaggers will assist drivers through the work zone.
  • A 14-foot vehicle width limit will be in place.
  • Drivers should be prepared to stop, proceed with caution and watch for maintenance personnel and equipment.

As a reminder, portions of SR 89A in Oak Creek Canyon are currently reduced to one lane only with alternating north- and southbound travel between Pumphouse Wash Bridge and Oak Creek Vista (roughly between mileposts 387 and 390) as part of the SR 89A Oak Creek Canyon Improvements project that is underway.

Intermittent closures of State Route 89A near Pumphouse Wash bridge May 2

The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising drivers, area residents and businesses that a 3-mile section of State Route 89A in Oak Creek Canyon will be intermittently closed overnight on Monday, May 2.

SR 89A will be closed intermittently to traffic through the switchback portion of the roadway between the Pumphouse Wash Bridge and Oak Creek Vista (approximately between mileposts 387 – 390).

The 15-minute, non-consecutive full closures will occur twice per hour from 9 p.m. Monday, May 2 to 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 3.

Drivers should be prepared to stop and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while the overnight closures are in place.

The restrictions are needed so crews can place traffic-control barriers on the roadway for the SR 89A Oak Creek Canyon Improvements project, which includes rockfall mitigation, erosion control and a bridge rehabilitation.

Plan for SR 89A-Fain Road lane closures beginning Monday, June 3

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises motorists to plan ahead and allow extra travel time for pavement repair along State Route 89A-Fain Road next week. The work will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, June 3, and Tuesday, June 4, on north- and southbound State Route 89A-Fain Road between the junction with SR 69 (milepost 331) and the junction with SR 89A-Robert Road (milepost 324).

Paving scheduled Monday, June 3, will require the following closures:

  • Northbound Fain Road will be narrowed to one lane (right lane closed)
  • Southbound Fain Road will be narrowed to one lane (left lane closed)

Paving scheduled Tuesday, June 4, will require the following closures:

  • Northbound Fain Road will be narrowed to one lane (left lane closed)
  • Southbound Fain Road will be narrowed to one lane (right lane closed)

The restrictions are necessary so ADOT crews can do fog-seal work, which helps to protect and extend the life of the highway pavement.

Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment.

Lane closures on State Route 89A begin tomorrow in Prescott Valley

PRESCOTT VALLEY – The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for daytime lane closures and travel delays on northbound State Route 89A near Glassford Hill Road between milepost 322 and milepost 323 for pavement repair.

ADOT is scheduled to do pavement work from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, Wednesday, April 24, and Thursday, April 25.

SR 89A will be narrowed to one lane (right lane closed) while work is underway. Plan for heavy delays and allow extra travel time.

Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment.

PAGE – Motorists traveling on US 89 to Page should allow extra time while surface sealant is applied on a nine-mile segment of the roadway just south of Horseshoe Bend Overlook. Work will occur between mileposts 537 and 546 during daylight hours Wednesday, May 17, and Thursday, May 18.

The roadway will be reduced to one lane with a pilot car guiding alternating traffic through the work zone. Drivers should observe reduced speed limits and watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work zone.

Shoulder widening project on State Route 89A in Prescott Valley starts this week

PRESCOTT – The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin work on a nine-mile shoulder widening project this week on State Route 89A between Coyote Springs Road and Legend Hills Drive (mileposts 324 to 332) in Prescott Valley.

Drivers are encouraged to be alert for increased construction activity throughout the work zone and adhere to reduced speeds as work begins.

Work hours initially for this project are Monday through Thursday between 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. through the end of the month and then construction will be a 24-hour operation towards the beginning of May.

This $2.4 million project consists of widened shoulders, resurfacing, installing new signage, drainage improvements, new pavement markings and other miscellaneous work.

Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment.

State Route 89A north of Indian Gardens to be narrowed to one lane for emergency guardrail repair

Stop the mud! Motorists using State Route 89A between Sedona and Flagstaff should allow extra travel time on Friday, March 3, while Arizona Department of Transportation crews make emergency repairs to guardrail damaged by last Monday’s storm. SR 89A will be reduced to one lane just north of Indian Gardens (milepost 379) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Flaggers will provide alternating north- and southbound travel through the work zone. Motorists should allow extra travel time and plan for delays.
