Men suspected of being white supremacists plead not guilty to weapons, drug charges in Arizona

PHOENIX – Two members of a notorious family that authorities say once tried to set up a whites-only nation in America have pleaded not guilty to weapons and drug charges in Arizona.

Kirby Kehoe and his 37-year-old son, Cheyne, were arrested last month after authorities raided Kirby Kehoe’s 40-acre property near Ash Fork, Ariz., and seized dozens of guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

Both men have previous felony convictions and are banned from possessing firearms. They were arraigned Wednesday on multiple charges, including illegally possessing firearms and body armor and intent to distribute marijuana. Trial is set for Jan. 7 in Prescott.

Cheyne Kehoe’s attorney has said his client used a rifle found at his father’s home for target practice and that he has disavowed white supremacy. Kirby Kehoe’s public defender hasn’t returned telephone messages.

Mike Konefal started making hot sauce when his attempts at making beer were less successful. A friend gave him a hot sauce making kit when he was a business student at Northern Arizona University. After much experimentation, he developed hot sauces with flavor as opposed to just spicy and hot. This eventually led to the Rising Hy brand of hot sauce [Facebook/Twitter]

He also merged with the Tortilla Lady brand, another local business in Flagstaff, and sells tortillas to various businesses in Flagstaff.

As the video below explains, he has recently decided to go national with the Rising Hy hot sauces. The Rising Hy products are available for purchase in Flagstaff and other cities across Arizona or through their web site. You can even purchase in Williams at the Canyon Motel on Rodeo Road.

Williams opens Santa Fe dam for crossing

santa-fe-open-01WILLIAMS—Last month the City of Williams passed an ordinance removing the prohibition of fishing off of the dam and crossing to get to the other side.

Previously one was required to use the road just north of the dam to get to the trail on the other side. The problem with the road is it is difficult to pass for elderly or people with other difficulties.

The ordinance stated that the City of Williams acknowledged the “…recreational value of the Santa Fe Dam and its use as a means of access to other recreational activities.” They declared that the prohibition upon traversing upon the dam to be detrimental to the interest of the City. They might have also noted that the prohibition was largely ignored.

The signs have recently been changed to include a warning about traversing the dam. If you take your kids fishing, you should not allow small children to sit on the edge of the dam facing the water. You should also note that there is no fence or barrier on the other side. People with small children should not fish off of the dam but use the shoreline on either side.

It should also be noted that during the spring thaw, water flows over the dam swiftly and can cause the dam to be slippery.

What the City of Williams DID NOT approve of was littering and illegal dumping of trash which has been a problem at the Santa Fe dam. Trash and plastic water and glass beer bottles can be found. Some of these dropped by hikers. Fishing line, some including hooks, and used bait containers are left along the shoreline. Even used electronic can be found dumped over the side of the dam and left laying about.

City ordinance does NOT allow this.

Illegal dumping activity can be reported to the Williams Police Department by dialing (928) 635-4461. If you have a cell phone, it would help to snap a picture of the vehicle and license plate if you can do it without endangering yourself or those with you.

Election Results 2013

WILLIAMS—As of 10:30 pm a little over 25.5% of the voters voted in the elections held in Coconino County.

With only one precinct left to report, the Coconino Community College Question appears to have failed. As of this writing 54.76% voted no on assessing a secondary property tax to raise $4.5 million for the college. 45.24% voted yes.

Williams voted to continue the tax for the Williams Health Clinic. The vote is 56.08% for with 43.92% voting against.

These are unofficial results until after the canvas process is complete.

In the closely watched and hotly contested race in Virginia, Democrat Terry McAuliffe appears to have won the race for governor with 47.39% of the vote with 99.5% of the precincts reporting. Republican Ken Cuccinelli received 45.8% of the vote with the Libertarian challenger Robert Sarvis receiving 6.66%. Democrat Ralph Northam won the race for Lieutenant Governor.

“Here” is the Grand Canyon Railway if you are in Williams.

If you have not already, make sure you take time to vote in the election today. No candidates are on this ballot, but you are voting for something as important. Whether or not to raise property taxes.

In Williams, you will determine whether or not to keep the property tax which supports the Williams Health Clinic.

The Coconino Community College is asking for $4.5 over seven years:

To maintain the operations of Coconino Community College, shall the Coconino County Community College District be authorized to levy a secondary property tax in an amount not to exceed $4,500,000 each year for the next seven years. The incremental funding to be used to continue its missions to:

• Maintain Career and Technical education programs that prepare local students for careers as Nurses, Emergency Medical Technicians, Firefighters, Detention Officers, Computer Technicians, Network Engineers, Alternative Energy Technicians and others; and

• Continue to prepare local students for higher education and for transfer to Arizona’s public universities; and

• Maintain programs to train and re-train local workers, in conjunction with local employers, for new occupations and careers in areas including Health Care, Manufacturing, Alternative Energy and others.

The Grand Canyon School and Sedona-Oak Creek Joint Unified School districts will be asking voters to exceed revenue control limits set by Arizona Revised Statute. The Grand Canyon proposal would add approximately $1.21 per $100 assessed value of your property while the Sedona-Oak Creek proposal claims .21 per $100 assessed value.

At the Williams voting station there is also a poster urging people to become an election board worker. You must be registered to vote in Coconino County and may register online. You may call 928-679-7860 or 800-793-6181 if you have questions.
