Kiwanis Club art event at the Rodeo Barn

300px-kiovalWILLIAMS – The Williams Kiwanis Club will be holding the Gateway to the Grand Canyon Arts and Craft Fair at the Rodeo Barn, 501 East Rodeo Road across from Old Trails Hardware.

The Fair will consist of over 45 vendors selling hand made crafts and art work. Kiwanis will hold a Chinese and Silent auction during the event which benefits their community activities throughout the year.

The Fair will be held May 16th from 11 am to 5 pm and on Saturday from 8 am to 3 pm. Lunch will be available Friday and Saturday from 11am to 2 pm and a pancake breakfast from 8am to 11 on Saturday. A dessert bar and beverages will be available all day Friday and Saturday.

KZBX brings radio back to Williams

kzbz-92-radioWILLIAMS – KZBX FM 92.1 radio is on the air. Actually, it has been on the air for sometime, but Station Manager/Owner Leslie Stevens may have finally found a permanent home for the station.

KZBX radio is a non-profit 501(c)3 radio station with an authorized 100-watt output. Currently the station runs only 30-watts and has a ten-mile radius. Les expects the station to be broadcasting full power within a few weeks.

Recently Les has been working on getting all of the FCC requirements in order such as the emergency broadcasting system and Amber Alert. The station moved into the First Baptist Church building until they could convert the storage room in back of the church into a radio shack.

The station has been broadcasting syndicated oldies music radio show. Now it is producing local radio broadcasts. Leslie Sevens has his show from 4 to 6pm on Friday and Saturday. PJ the DJ hosts her radio show from 6 to 8 pm on Friday and Saturday.

As a non-profit, the station depends on volunteers to assist in running the station. He does not run commercial advertising so financial donations are helpful. Other non-profits can make use of the station to broadcast their existence and activities.

Leslie said that he would gladly show anyone who desires to run a show how to run the board and equipment.

NORTHERN ARIZONA – The horrendous winds we have been experience stopped as the classic cars of the Route 66 Fun Run rolled into town. Each May classic car owners join together for a run down Route 66 to end up in the town of Topock, Arizona.

The Fun Run is sponsored by the Route 66 Association of Arizona which started the run seven-years after Williams became the last Route 66 town bypassed by I-40. They are dedicated to preserving the memory of the Will Rogers Highway which has come to be known as “The Mother Road.” The road has sparked the imagination through movies such as The Grapes of Wrath and Easy Rider—and more recently the hit animated feature Cars. The long-running television series Route 66 staring Martin Milner and George Maharis concerned two men traveling in a Corvette looking for various job opportunities. Though much of the series was not filmed on Route 66.

The Run travels through Holbrook to Flagstaff, through Williams and Ash Fork down through Seligman. They stop at Kingman for a 10 am car show tomorrow. The Run ends just short of crossing the Pipeline Bridge into California at the town of Topock, Arizona. Arizona boasts the longest remaining contiguous stretch of Route 66 and these cars travel the entire distance.

Richard, from Scottsdale, drove his 1957 Chevy pickup with a group of hot rods. While the others stayed in Flagstaff, Richard and his wife decided on Williams where they enjoy the dining fare at Rod’s Steakhouse on Route 66.

View the heavens Friday

WILLIAMS – The Coconino Astronomical Society will be holding a viewing of the night sky on Friday, March 2d between 7:30 and 9:30 pm. The viewing will be held in the vacant area across from the laundry and Rod’s Steakhouse on Railroad avenue. The viewing is free.

The Society held a viewing last month in the same location and hopes to make this a monthly event. Tourist and residents of Williams are invited to come tour the skies.

The group picked this day because the brightness of the moon will not interfere with the viewing of other heavenly bodies. The group donates their telescopes and time to interest people in the science of astronomy.

Gosnell movie gets amazing funding via Indeggo.

He is the Clippers owner who allegedly made distasteful racist remarks and is well-known for his donations to Democratic candidates and causes. His remarks, released by TMZ, have received massive media coverage. He was recently barred, apparently, from the NBA.

Kermit Gosnell is probably not a name known except to a select few. He was an abortion doctor in Philadelphia who delivered live babies and killed them by severing their spinal cord with scissors. He called the process “snipping.” He is not the only one at his clinic that conducted this process. It is alleged that sometimes his nursing staff and even administrative staff would conduct the snipping. It is unknown how many babies he snipped because he destroyed many of the records. He was only accused and convicted of a few of the murders and is now serving several life sentences.

The story of the Gosnell trial is not the trial itself, but the lack of coverage of the trial. CNN has become known as the missing plane network and all media outlets have donated various amounts of time to the Donald Sterling story. The benches reserved for the media at the Gosnell trial, however, were virtually empty. PBS and Associated Press did cover the trial and did a good report on the trial.

Spike Lee is also a household name. He is a movie producer who has produced some pretty good movies—including Malcom X—and made millions. His campaign on KICKSTARTER is making headlines for raising over $1.4M of $1.25M requested for his new movie which is apparently a thriller about vampires. There are no details about the movie on the site because it is a thriller. This so-called “crowdfunding” campaign has been covered by the various mainstream media agencies.

Phelim Mcaleer is not a household name either. He is a documentary producer who has three titles to date. His conservative documentaries are the ire of the “progressive” movement. Especially Not Evil Just Wrong which is an anti-global warming movie. It screened across the nation, but did not receive the press of other award winning documentary makers who support the progressive agenda.

The media also did not cover the amazing crowdfunding for Mcaleer’s latest effort through Indegogo. The movie Gosnell and is the story of the abortion doctor aforementioned. The campaign started on March 28 and has raised over $1.5M of the $2.1M sought. The movie is breaking records for funding through the web site.

The movie is being made for television so it is questionable what networks would run a film contrary to the present agenda.

Montana Congressional candidate shoots down a drone.

matt-rosendale4MONTANA – Congressional candidate Matt Rosendale shoots down a drone in his campaign ad. Just to prove a point.

Whether or not it garners him any votes, it certainly might resonate in the western States on the heels of the Bundy Ranch incident in Nevada. The incident brought out militia members from around the country alongside citizens and legislators from various States. The rock band Madison Rising appeared to perform at the site.

The action caused a Legislative Summit on the Transfer of Public Lands in Salt Lake City which included at least nine western States.

Drones have been a sore point since they have been appearing as part of the surveillance network and was used to kill an American citizen overseas.

Still time to get in on some of the Easter egg hunt

bunnyaWILLIAMS – The Easter egg hunt is still going on at the Williams Recreation Center. Most of the eggs, however, have been found. There is still time to get in for barbeque chicken, hotdogs, cole slaw and other treats.

OBAMA IN SERIOUS DANGER OF IMPEACHMENT

The Globe magazine—which brings us articles on all of our favorite celebrities—is calling for the impeachment of the president.

The infamous Globe magazine brought us the exclusives that Barrack Obama is a Muslim who was not born in the United States. They told us of the hit list of Michelle Obama. Presumably that means her favorite music from Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga.

If the Globe is willing to go after a meal ticket such as the current occupants of the White House, you know there is trouble brewing.

And if Congress isn’t listening, there might just be a few articles about them in subsequent issues.

Theatrikos Presents A 1940’s-Themed Fundraising Gala

FLAGSTAFF – The Theatrikos Theatre Company will be hosting a gala event at the DoubleTree (formerly the Woodlands Hotel) in Flagstaff on May 3, 2014, complete with gourmet food and world-class entertainment. The reception will begin at 6:00 PM, followed by dinner at 7:00 PM and a presentation at 8:00 PM. The theme is “A Nostalgic Look Back to the 1940’s.” Period attire is encouraged, but not required.

Stan Sutherland and Ray Jordan, both members of the Theatrikos board of directors and frequent volunteers for various Northern Arizona nonprofit organizations, will present the evening’s entertainment with the help of other members of the Theatrikos family. Sutherland thinks that the 1940s theme will be a good excuse for people to get dolled up in period clothes and immerse themselves in an iconic era. “The ’40s were interesting, because in addition to being a time of unprecedented tragedy, they were a huge cultural highpoint. Film Noir classics like ‘The Maltese Falcon,’ as well as stuff like ‘Casablanca’ and ‘Citizen Kane’ were being made all in the same brief stretch.
