Detroit activists illegally ask UN to step on US sovereignty

detroitDETROIT – The Financial Post reported last month that activists are asking the United Nations to enter their city and assist. Assist in staving off hordes of hungry rioters? Assist in stopping the invasion of illegal aliens?

No. Activists in Detroit are asking for the United Nations to come in a prevent their water from being shut off.

These are the same types of activists that convince the Lydon B. Johnson administration to dump billions of taxpayer dollars into the city to create a “model city.” It has become a model of what happens when the national government steals from the property of the American people to support other cities.

It also shows that these “activists” will stop at nothing to turn America into a third-world country.

If these people were properly educated, they would know that the United Nations has absolutely no Constitutional authority inside the United States.

The United Nations is exerting unauthorized authority by convincing “progressive” elected Democrats to sign on to their sustainable energy initiatives known popularly as Agenda 21. This is a prime example of the influence warned about by John Jay—the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court—in Federalist Papers No. 2-5 entitled, Concerning Dangers from Foreign Force and Influence.

Armed Detroit nurse saves man being beaten by angry mob

Deborah-HughesDETROIT – When a retired Detroit nurse witnessed an angry mob beating a man last week, she didn’t simply turn away. Instead, she grabbed her gun, placed it in her coat pocket and went to intervene, which quite possibly saved the man’s life.

Steve Utash was driving down the street in his pick-up truck last Wednesday when 10-year-old David Harris stepped off of the curb and into the street. Utash accidentally struck the child with his vehicle, but when he stopped and got out to help him, as a local Fox affiliate reported, things quickly went from bad to worse.

About 10 to 12 people immediately surrounded Utash and began to beat him, while dozens of others stood by and watched.

But Deborah Hughes, who lives across the street from where the incident occurred, witnessed the events and wasn’t about to just do nothing. Hughes grabbed her handgun and went to help Utash.

Man-in-undies sculpture causes a stir at all-girls college

bildeWELLESLEY, MASS. — A remarkably lifelike sculpture of a man sleepwalking in nothing but his underpants has made some Wellesley College students a bit uncomfortable, but the president of the prestigious women’s school says that’s all part of the intellectual process.

The sculpture, titled “Sleepwalker,” is of a man in an eyes-closed, zombie-like trance. It’s part of an exhibit by Tony Matelli at the college’s Davis Museum. It was placed at a busy area of campus Monday, a few days before the exhibit’s official opening, and prompted an online student petition to have it removed.

The sculpture is a “source of apprehension, fear, and triggering thoughts regarding sexual assault,” says the petition, which had nearly 300 signtures Wednesday.

Should We Bail Out Cities?

iALF7L8oomuABy Megan McArdle Nov 26

In the latest City Journal, Steve Malanga writes about an issue that hasn’t yet gotten a lot of attention but is virtually guaranteed to become a serious topic of national debate in the not-so-distant future: Do we bail out cities that have become insolvent?

Malanga quotes a Steve Rattner op-ed from the summer: “The 700,000 remaining residents of the Motor City are no more responsible for Detroit’s problems than were the victims of Hurricane Sandy for theirs, and eventually Congress decided to help them.” Rattner is right, of course; Detroit was largely undone by massive structural changes in the auto industry, which now employs only a small fraction of the people that it used to. And yet, there’s more to the story, isn’t there? Detroit’s biggest problem is the combined burden of its pension funds and retiree health benefits. And the reason that its pensions are in such a state is that they were bizarrely mismanaged by people who apparently didn’t quite get fifth-grade math.

It’s true that it would be easier to deal with these problems if Detroit were more like New York and less like, well, Detroit. But it’s also true that if Detroit had been responsible about its pension contributions instead of underfunding the pensions while simultaneously handing out extra benefits above and beyond what the city already couldn’t afford, its retirees would not now be facing dire straits. New Yorkers did not get to vote for the corrupt Detroit politicians who appointed the terrible Detroit pension managers who made all of Detroit’s problems so much worse than they had to be. Why should they have to pick up the check for all those mistakes?

Murder Suspect Tries Twice to Turn Himself In

(DETROIT) — Detroit police are investigating why a murder suspect had to turn himself in twice before he was arrested.

The 36-year-old man walked into a fire station two hours after he allegedly shot four people at a party early Saturday morning, police said in a statement. Two of the victims died, while the other two were seriously wounded, police said.

The suspect, who was not identified, told firefighters at 3:20 a.m. Saturday that he was connected to the shootings, police said.

Fire fighters called the Detroit Police Department, but they were told all available officers were on high priority runs and that no one would be able to be dispatched to the station, ABC News affiliate WXYZ-TV in Detroit reported.
